Tom began working in the construction industry when he was twenty-two. After eight years working in and with the various trades, he decided to specialize in electrical work. Tom then worked as an electrical crew leader and job supervisor until 1998, when he and electrician Karen Witherite co-founded House Wire, Inc. Today, after more than twenty five years in the electrical trade, Tom still enjoys the challenge of electrical work. His combination of general construction experience and electrical specialization has uniquely qualified Tom to help you resolve your most complex electrical design and wiring issues.
Tom was a wrestler and rugby player at Penn State, and is a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association. He is an active participant in Habitat for Humanity building projects. In his free time he enjoys family get-togethers, soaring in his glider, hunting, and fishing.
Karen Witherite, Co-Owner Karen Witherite, co-owner of House Wire Electric, Inc had 13 years of experience starting out as an electrician before joining with co-worker at the time Tom Houseknecht to start their own electrical business in 1998. More than ten years later, Karen and Tom employ nine people and never have a shortage of work, which is remarkable since they have never advertised and rely solely on referrals. Karen splits her days between the office and in the field. She prepares estimates, works with job crews, and takes care of the office paperwork. She describes her forte as working in the field and despite the demand that managing the business takes on her time, she does make an effort to take on some of the smaller jobs. As a way to give back to the community, Karen has been a guest speaker at the Bald Eagle Career Day for the past four years. She has also been a radio dj on WTLR 89.9 on Saturday mornings for 25 years! Karen and her husband Dan enjoy travel, fishing, and spending time with family.
